Jam Kamal, Russian Deputy Minister Discuss Trade Opportunities

Islamabad (TDI): Russia’s Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade Alexey Gruzdev Wednesday called on Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal to discuss strengthening trade ties between Pakistan and Russia.

The meeting took place at the Ministry of Commerce, according to a press release.

During the meeting, the two dignitaries stressed enhancing economic cooperation and exploring new trade opportunities.

Speaking on the occasion, Jam Kamal highlighted the untapped potential of bilateral trade. He emphasized the need for consistent engagement to boost trade volumes.

The minister said he was satisfied with the expanding economic collaboration between the two nations.

They also discussed the upcoming 5th Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting that is scheduled for September 26-27 in Islamabad. Key agenda items of the upcoming meeting are industrial cooperation, customs, investment, transport, logistics, and agricultural trade.

Speaking on the occasion, Gruzdev praised the current state of trade relations but agreed that there is room for improvement.

He underlined potential areas for collaboration, including the supply of mineral fertilizers, modernization of Pakistan’s fertilizer plants, export of agricultural and railway machinery, and cooperation in the pharmaceutical and digital technology sectors.

The Russian minister also expressed Russia’s willingness to offer expertise in modernizing fertilizer plants and providing training programs for Pakistani farmers to boost agricultural productivity.

Both ministers concluded the meeting with optimism, recognizing the growth potential in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, livestock, and steel. They reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing Pakistan-Russia economic relations.
