Hiroshima, 22 May 2023 (TDI): The United States (US) Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, held a bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister of India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, during his visit to Hiroshima for the 49th G7 Leaders’ Summit.

The meeting focused on the forthcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Washington, D.C., and highlighted the deep partnership between the two nations.

During the discussion, both leaders expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to America.

Secretary Blinken took to Twitter to share his appreciation for the meeting with Minister Jaishankar, stating, “I had a great discussion with Indian Minister of External Affairs Dr. Jaishankar on the sidelines of the G7 in Hiroshima.

We look forward to hosting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June, whose visit will celebrate the deep partnership between the United States and India.”

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) informed that Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to embark on an official state visit to the US on June 22. The visit will include a state dinner hosted by US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden at the White House.

The MEA statement highlighted that the visit will underscore the growing importance of the strategic partnership between India and the US, as the two nations already collaborate across various sectors.

A statement released by the White House further emphasized the significance of Prime Minister Modi’s visit. It stated, “The visit will strengthen the two countries’ shared commitment to a free, open, prosperous, and secure Indo-Pacific and our shared resolve to elevate our strategic technology partnership, including in defense, clean energy, and space.”

The leaders are expected to discuss various areas of mutual interest, such as educational exchanges, people-to-people ties, and collaborative efforts to address common challenges such as climate change, workforce development, and health security.

The visit will further deepen the robust relationship between India and the US and reinforce their shared vision for a prosperous and secure Indo-Pacific region.
