California (TDI): The renowned co-founder of X, Jack Dorsey, is now making a new app, a new way to connect people. It’s a peer-to-peer mesh-network-based app that lets people message each other over Bluetooth without requiring the internet.
Dorsey mentioned on X that he created a simple version of the app, named Bitchat, during the last weekend to explore a variety of technologies that enable mesh-based services. The main point is that Bitchat is fully decentralized, lacking any servers to keep messages.

How to use Bitchat
The app can enable peer-to-peer messaging where the users don’t need the internet to rely on for sending a message, as they can simply do it via Bluetooth.Â
A person can use this app simply by walking around with their phone, while the app will use Bluetooth to connect to nearby devices and form a group.
Because the app works using Bluetooth, you’ll be able to instantly send messages to people who have the app installed on their phones within a distance of about 328 yards (300 m); if they’re further away, then the message will hop from one phone to another nearby phone until it reaches the intended receiver. This process is called mesh networking.
Key features of the app
Even though the messages are sent to the intended receiver through a number of networks but the founder has ensured their privacy and assured that the sender’s messages are secured.
There is no requirement for the internet; messages can be sent via Bluetooth.
The identity of the user is kept anonymous as the users aren’t required to create accounts using their email or phone number
The official release date of Bitchat has not yet been announced. In the meantime, the developers are also working on the Android version of the messaging app.
