Hanoi, 13 September 2021 (TDI): EU Delegation in Vietnam has announced the massive donation of 1.5 million doses of vaccines through CoVax by Italy and France to Vietnam. The vaccines are to arrive in the country on Monday.
The announcement comes after Poland’s donation of worth US$4million of medical equipment in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The vaccine donation drive is under the Team Europe initiative by the EU as the second-largest donor to COVAX. 1.3 billion doses of vaccine are to be distributed among lower-income countries. 9 million doses have already been sent to Vietnam.
Belgium, Czechia, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia have donated vaccines as direct bilateral donations, and France and Italy via COVAX.
According to the EU delegation, Eur 40 billion are being mobilized for global vaccine drive, provision of equitable healthcare, water, sanitation, treatments, and tests against coronavirus pandemic.
