Personal Profile:
Marilina Armellin was born on August 14, 1971, in Conegliano, Treviso, Italy.
She is one of the most famous Italian diplomats, with a career length of more than one decade.
She holds her degree in International and Diplomatic Sciences from the University of Trieste in 1994.
Her diplomatic journey began on September 23, 1996, as a volunteer in the diplomatic career.
She progressed to Secretary of Legation on June 23, 1997, serving first in the Directorate General for Cultural Relations.
International assignment
Her first international assignment as First Secretary at the Italian Embassy in Nairobi started July 16, 2001.
Upon her return to Italy in 2006, Armellin worked in the Directorate General for Italians Abroad and Migration Policies.
In a similar year, she was appointed Counselor of Legation on July 2, 2006.
She received a promotion to head of the Secretariat for the Directorate General for Italians Abroad and Migration Policies in November 2006.
Furthermore, on 2 July 2011, she got the rank of Counselor of Embassy.
After a few months, she was appointed as first counselor at the Permanent Mission to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva.
Afterward, Armellin held the place of First Counselor at the Italian Embassy in Washington, D.C., beginning on August 24, 2015.
Moreover, she was also accredited to the Organization of American States (O.S.A.) as a permanent observer with the title and rank of ambassador.
Because of her expertise, she was chosen to report directly to the Director General for Globalization and Global Issues on 2 September 2019.
Later, on 10 December 2019, she took the role of Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the Caribbean Countries.
The next two years, she served as Deputy Director General/Central Director for the Countries of Latin America to Minister Plenipotentiary.
Current Posting:
Armellin is posted as ambassador in the Italian embassy in Pakistan in 2024. She is the first Italian women ambassador to be appointed in Pakistan.
During her short period, she strengthens relations with Pakistan; she meets up with every special representative of the Pakistani government.
Italy and Pakistan Relations:
The relations between Italy and Pakistan date back to 1948.
Economic cooperation, cultural exchange, and people-to-people are the principles based on which the relationship.
Bilateral relations between Pakistan and Italy are mainly considered in cooperation on exports. These exports include textiles, leather products, and agricultural products from Pakistan to Italy.
Consequently, machinery, engineering products, and technology are imported from Italy into Pakistan.
Further, Italy gives scholarships and training facilities to the students and professionals of Pakistan to refine educational relations.
Italian and Pakistani officials have been working together in the international arena during the past few years on issues and concerns, including climate change, migration, and counter-terrorism.
