Israeli Airstrikes Hit Syrian Military Headquarters

Damascus (TDI): On Wednesday, Israeli airstrikes attacked Syrian military headquarters near the presidential palace in central Damascus, amid internal conflict in the country. The strikes killed 3 people and injured 34 people, Syrian officials said.

The gate of the Ministry of Defense in the Syrian capital was also targeted by two warning missiles from an Israeli reconnaissance aircraft.

The Israeli military has confirmed that it had “struck the entrance gate” in Damascus and that it would be monitoring “actions being taken against Druze civilians in southern Syria.”

The Syrian government said it sent troops to the south to restore order after clashes erupted between Druze and Bedouin fighters.

Israel struck twice on Wednesday in the heart of Damascus, warning the Syrian government that it will escalate its attacks if Syrian troops do not withdraw from Suwayda in southern Syria.

The clashes marked the collapse of a ceasefire between Syrian government forces and Druze armed groups, with Israel also warning it would increase its involvement. Israeli officials said that they are acting to protect the Druze groups by attacking Syrian forces.

It has also been reported that Israel’s defense minister, Israel Katz, said the military will continue to strike Syrian forces until they withdraw and should “leave Druze alone.”

On the other hand, Middle Eastern countries condemned Israeli airstrikes on Syria, calling it a violation of the country’s sovereignty.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has condemned in the “strongest terms” Israel’s attacks on Damascus, referring to them as a “blatant violation of the sovereignty of a brotherly Arab state.”

Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, in a post on X, said that the country “supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity” of Syria and “will always stand” with the people of the country, while mockingly addressing Israel with “which capital is next?”

UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has reported that more than 300 people have been killed in south Syria since Sunday.
