Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan’s capital Islamabad has been placed on high alert as it prepares to host key peace negotiations between the United States and Iran. Authorities have rolled out extensive security arrangements, deploying over 10,000 personnel across the capital to safeguard visiting delegations.
According to officials, the security plan involves multiple layers and is being overseen by the military, with support from Rangers as well as police forces from Islamabad and Punjab. Traffic management is also a major focus, with both the Islamabad Traffic Police and the National Highway and Motorway Police assigned to maintain order on major routes.
The deployment includes around 6,000 Islamabad police officers, 900 members of the Frontier Constabulary, and 3,000 personnel from the Punjab Constabulary. In addition, Rangers and army troops will be stationed at sensitive locations, while approximately 1,000 traffic officials will handle road management duties.
Security forces have been positioned throughout the red zone and other high-security areas, with Quick Response Force units placed at strategic points. Troops have also taken positions in the Margalla Hills to enhance surveillance.
Access to the red zone will be heavily restricted, with all entry points closed except Margalla Road, which will remain open only to authorized individuals and residents. Special routes have been designated for the movement of foreign delegates between the airport and their accommodations, with strict security maintained along these corridors. Delegates will receive protocol-level security arrangements.

Authorities have also ensured that emergency services, lighting, road maintenance, and catering arrangements are fully managed by the capital administration.

Due to these measures, several major roads will face closures and diversions. Faisal Avenue up to Zero Point and the Expressway up to Koral Chowk will remain shut, while traffic on other routes will be regulated during the movement of delegations. Commuters traveling toward Rawalpindi from sectors G-5, G-6, and F-6 have been advised to use 9th Avenue. Additional diversions have been planned for traffic coming from Bhara Kahu, I.J.P Road, and surrounding areas to minimize disruption.
