Dublin, 25 August 2023 (TDI): The Tánaiste, Micheál Martin, who serves as both the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence of the Republic of Ireland, extended a warm welcome to guests from the United States Congress as they embarked on their visit to Ireland.
The occasion of their arrival coincides with the Aer Lingus College Football Classic, an event fostering international camaraderie.
The visiting Delegations are led by Senator Christopher Murphy from Connecticut and Congressman Pat Fallon from Texas.
In a reception held at Iveagh House, the historic governmental building in Dublin, the Tánaiste expressed his pleasure at the opportunity to host the American Congressional Delegations.
He highlighted the strong bipartisan support demonstrated by the US Congress for peace within Ireland, particularly on the milestone occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.
The Tánaiste shared his anticipation for fruitful discussions with Senator Chris Murphy, Representative Pat Fallon, and their fellow Congressional members.
He underscored the multifaceted nature of Ireland’s relations with the United States, emphasizing economic ties, the robust people-to-people connections that thrive through migration, and the success of events like the Aer Lingus College Football Classic in strengthening these bonds.
Integral to the talks will be deliberations on pertinent international matters affecting both Irish and American citizens.
Chief among these is Russia’s unauthorized incursion into Ukraine, a subject of shared concern.

The event follows a period of proactive engagement by the Irish Government in the United States, during which the Taoiseach, Tánaiste, and seven Government Ministers visited key American cities as part of the international St. Patrick’s Day program for 2023.
