Iran Foreign Minister to Visit Pakistan today

ISLAMABAD, (TDI):Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, will arrive in Pakistan for a two-day official visit today (Monday) as part of Tehran’s diplomatic efforts to consult with regional players regarding the recent Israeli strikes on Iranian defense installations.

According to a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Office, Araghchi will meet with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar during his visit.

The backdrop to this visit includes Israel’s attack on Iran on October 26, which was in retaliation for a missile strike by Iran that resulted in the deaths of four Iranian soldiers earlier that month.

Iran had launched around 200 ballistic missiles at Israel in response to the killing of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and the assassination of Hizbullah chief Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut.

In addition to military operations in Gaza and Lebanon, Israel has been targeting Iran-linked interests in Iraq and Syria.

During his discussions, Araghchi is expected to address the current crisis in the Middle East and seek Pakistan’s support and advice.

Pakistan was among the first nations to condemn the Israeli strikes on Iran, with its Foreign Office describing the attack as a violation of Iran’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Media reports indicate that the talks will also cover bilateral relations, the situation in Afghanistan, and other relevant matters. This visit marks Araghchi’s first trip to Pakistan since his appointment as Iran’s top diplomat.
