Iran's Minister for Development meeting with Pakistan's Foreign Minister

Islamabad, 18 August 2022 (TDI): Rostam Ghasemi, Minister for Roads and Urban Development of Iran called on the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto on Wednesday.

The Foreign Minister warmly welcomed the Iranian Minister and his delegation to Pakistan. During the meeting, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister highlighted fraternal ties between the two states, rooted in shared history and cultural affinities.

Moreover, he assured Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthen bilateral cooperation with Iran in all areas of mutual interest.

The Foreign Minister further emphasized the need to utilize the existing potential between Iran and Pakistan in air links, energy, and connectivity.

In addition, he exchanged views about the opening of new border crossing points. Bilawal Bhutto added that the establishment of border markets would facilitate the movement of people and goods as well as improve livelihood.

Apart from this, he expressed gratitude for the continuous support by Iran on the Kashmir cause. Moreover, the Development Minister of Iran Rostam Ghasemi on his part thanked the Foreign Minister for receiving the delegation.

He remarked that the 21st session of the Pakistan-Iran Joint Economic Commission (JEC) offered new avenues for enhancing bilateral relations.

Further, the Iranian Minister also stressed on the need to fully explore all opportunities. He expressed a keen desire to work together for the mutual benefit of Pakistan and Iran.

Previous Meetings

In June 2022, the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto visited Iran and met Ayatollah Ebrahim Raisi, President of Iran. The two dignitaries agreed on enhancing the existing bilateral ties between the two states.

During his visit to Iran, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister also met his Iranian Counterpart, Dr. Amir Abdollahian. Moreover, they addressed a joint press stakeout.

Bilawal Bhutto stated, “Iran is a very important neighbor of Pakistan, one with which we share immutable historic and fraternal bonds.

He also said that “for the Prime Minister, and for me, building close relations with Iran remains a high priority.”
