His opponents included Mahmood Khan Achakzai, a seasoned politician from Balochistan, representing the opposition Sunni Ittehad Council, a religiopolitical entity that now houses lawmakers from the incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.

Voting commenced at 10 am local time at the National Assembly building in Islamabad and in all four provincial capitals, concluding at 4 pm.
This marks Zardari’s second term as the country’s president, a role regarded as the highest, albeit symbolic, constitutional position in Pakistan. He previously held the presidency from 2008 to 2013, during the tenure of his own party’s government.
Furthermore, the new president of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is scheduled to be sworn in tomorrow (Sunday).
The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for Sunday at 4 pm at the President’s House. Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Qazi Faez Isa, will preside over the administration of the oath to the newly elected president.
Invitations have been issued by the Presidency to guests who will attend the ceremony.
