Entebbe, 13 July 2023 (TDI): Iranian President Sayyid Ebrahim Raisolsadati Visited Uganda at the invitation of Yoweri Museveni, Ugandan President.

It was a two-day visit where both leaders discussed future opportunities and denounced the support of Western countries for homosexuality.

Iranian President commended the recent anti-gay legislature, which was passed in Uganda, and the punishment for any act of homosexuality is death.

This visit was followed by the Iranian President’s visit to Kenya, and after Uganda, he will visit Zimbabwe.

After more than a decade, the Iranian President has embarked on this visit to the African countries.

This visit aimed to promote economic cooperation, strengthen the two countries bilateral relationship, and increase exports.

Ebrahim Raisi and his counterpart Yoweri Museveni signed four memorandums of understanding, including Visa Waiver, Agricultural development, and others. All are aiming to increase cooperation.

Both leaders engaged in talks to strengthen cooperation in petrochemical technology, agriculture, science, and technology.

The Iranian President also condemned the recent attack on the school in Uganda. He also commits to the Ugandan President to support them in combatting terrorism in the region.

Iran has cooperated with Uganda in various fields. With the construction of a hydroelectric power plant to the development of hospitals in Uganda.

Uganda is a resource-rich nation, and Iran has experience of refining oil, so both countries are taking steps to boost cooperation in the field.

Nuclear wish

Iran has been developing its nuclear program for some time now but was unable to do so due to the Iran nuclear deal, but since President Trump withdrew from the deal, Iran has been trying to develop its nuclear reactors.

Uganda also wishes to have nuclear power plants to generate electricity. In 2010, President Yoweri Museveni also supported the Iranian President that every country has a right to seek nuclear power plants for peaceful purposes.
