Tehran, 9 May 2024 (TDI): Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian welcomed the delegation from the Turkish parliamentary group on Wednesday morning to hold talks regarding strengthening bilateral ties and mutual collaboration.
The delegation included the head of the Turkish-Iranian parliamentary friendship group, Kayhan Turkmenoglu, and head of the Iranian-Turkish parliamentary friendship, Adel Najafzadeh. Other members included Metin Ergun, Dogan Bekin, Bunyamin Bozgeyik, and Zuhal Karakoc Dora.
During the meeting, the Iranian foreign minister expressed gratitude for the visit paid by the dignitaries of Turkey’s Muslim community. Furthermore, he commended both states’ parliamentary friendship groups for their contributions to developing bilateral relations.
He stated that advancing parliamentary engagement and ongoing exchanges between the legislators of the two nations are essential to the advancement of bilateral diplomacy.
Kayhan Turkmenoglu additionally touched on the recent agreements reached at the presidents’ meeting in Ankara. This diplomatic engagement was set in the backdrop of the expanding bilateral commercial and economic connections between the two nations.
He restated that the Turkish parliament is in favor of deepening bilateral relations and removing current roadblocks. Additionally, the Turkish parliamentary group also supports accelerating the execution of cooperative agreements.
“The determination of the presidents of the two countries to develop ties, especially in the economic arena, is in line with the mutual interests of both nations.” said.
Cooperation on Gaza
Moreover, citing the two countries’ close collaboration on the Gaza genocide, The Iranian foreign minister commended Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s move to terminate economic ties with the Zionist state as a wise and beneficial step.

In addition, Kayhan Turkmenoglu strongly condemned the terrorist attack by the Israeli regime on the Iranian embassy in Damascus. He emphasized that the genocide in Gaza has to end so as to reduce regional tensions.
“The Iranian government and people have always helped oppressed people, and in the recent developments in Gaza and Palestine, we have witnessed the Iranian government and nation’s effective support to the oppressed people in Palestine,” he said.
