Chinese, Iranian Leaders meet to strengthen communication
China and Iran Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthen Bilateral Ties and International Cooperation

Tehran, 22 August 2023 (TDI): In a recent phone conversation, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian reaffirmed their countries’ dedication to deepening their comprehensive strategic partnership and fostering mutual support on core issues.

The call, initiated by Amir-Abdollahian on August 20, highlights the strong bond between China and Iran.

Wang expressed China’s readiness to stand by Iran in addressing matters of vital interest and to strengthen their collaborative efforts.

He underscored the success of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s state visit to China earlier this year, which resulted in significant consensus on bilateral cooperation and elevated China-Iran relations to new heights.

 

Both sides are striving to implement the established consensus, promoting exchanges, and driving cooperation across multiple domains, Wang noted.

Wang reiterated the commitment of China to international fairness and justice, as well as the common interests of developing nations.

Moreover, he commended the recent Iran-Saudi dialogue held in Beijing, which has contributed to improved bilateral relations and sparked a reconciliation trend in the Middle East.

He appreciated Iran’s constructive approach and assured continued support for the Middle Eastern countries in exploring development paths suited to their national contexts.

Furthermore, he emphasized the significance of unity, self-improvement, and amicable relations among neighbours.

Amir-Abdollahian expressed Iran’s high regard for its comprehensive strategic partnership with China.

He also expressed eagerness to uphold high-level exchanges and enhance cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

The Iranian Foreign Minister extended sincere gratitude to China for its constructive role in facilitating the normalization of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

The conversation also delved into the Iranian nuclear issue, where Amir-Abdollahian shared the latest developments in contacts with involved parties.

Wang emphasized the necessity of full and effective implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action for the fundamental resolution of the issue.

BRICS cooperation and other matters of shared interest were also discussed during the call, further exemplifying the multifaceted nature of China-Iran relations.
