Rome, 12 July 2022 (TDI): The Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, arrived in Rome for talks with Italian and Vatican officials. The foreign minister of Iran met with a senior diplomat of Italy, Luigi Di Maio.

Issues discussed during the consultations

During the meeting, the two foreign ministers discussed measures to deepen their bilateral ties. The two leaders also discussed regional and global concerns.

Amir Abdollahian made reference to the long-standing relationships and mutual resources between Tehran and Rome.

The Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized the necessity for the two parties to take advantage of those opportunities. This would advance their collaboration. As much as feasible, this is most prevalent in the disciplines of trade and economics.

In this vein, Amir Abdollahian and Di Maio emphasized the significance of boosting travel between Italy and Iran.

This came about due to the popular tourist destinations of the two nations and the importance of expanding air travel between them.

In addition, the presence of Italian and Iranian goods and technologies in the marketplaces of the two nations is something that Iran is interested in.

Therefore, the Iranian foreign minister characterized the current circumstances as a favorable chance for Tehran and Rome to increase commercial interactions.

Amir Abdollahian also suggested that Iran and Italy’s business sectors take steps to deepen their bilateral trade and economic relations.

As a result, he emphasized the need to evaluate consular matters and promote travel to and exchanges between the two countries for citizens of both countries.

Amir Abdollahian also discussed the JCPOA, the nuclear agreement from 2015. He remarked on the JCPOA’s efficient operation and the serious search for a good and durable settlement. He thought that Iran had to be able to fully gain economically from the JCPOA.

The foreign minister of Iran continued by saying that the US needs to be aware of this fact when it comes to the question of providing guarantees to Iran.

Iran-Italy discussions

The Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently made fresh efforts for this purpose. The US, however, has not acted sensibly or coherently. They have to rationally comprehend the problem, as alluded to by the foreign minister.

At the meeting, Italy’s top diplomat emphasized how significant Amir Abdollahian’s visit to his nation was at this point in global affairs. Di Maio added that the visit offered a wonderful chance to strengthen bilateral ties.

He claimed that Italian businesses are ready to keep operating in Iran. The Italian counterpart emphasized that Italy and the EU want the negotiations to result in all parties returning to the JCPOA. He continued that Italy is prepared to contribute positively to this objective.

The two foreign ministers expressed their willingness to increase scholarly and cultural exchange between Iran and Italy.

The Islamic Republic of Iran’s leadership was congratulated by a senior Italian diplomat for its efforts to promote more scientific and cultural interactions.

The discussions between the two foreign ministers also covered other regional and global problems. Iran’s aversion to going to war, whether it is in Yemen, Afghanistan, or Ukraine, was reiterated by Amirabdollahian.

Regarding the Ukraine crisis, Amir Abdollahian claimed Iran tried to call both Moscow and Kyiv to invite them to talks.

Furthermore, Iran works diplomatically on a regional level to help Turkiye and Syria settle their issues. This is through negotiations to prevent a new war in this region of the world.
