Tehran (TDI): Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Thursday that any aggression against Islamic holy sites, particularly Makkah, Madinah and Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as threats to pilgrims and neighbouring countries, should be condemned.
However, he cautioned against assigning responsibility for the alleged drone incident without establishing the facts. “A mere claim of intercepting a drone en route to Makkah Mukarramah cannot constitute grounds for accusing a specific party,” Baghaei said, pointing out that Yemen’s Houthi-led administration had explicitly denied responsibility for the incident.
Baghaei also called for the security of Islamic holy sites not to be politicised or used to fuel tensions in the region. He urged vigilance before drawing conclusions, referring to what he described as previous “false flag” operations in the region.

Meanwhile, China is supporting diplomatic efforts to prevent the conflict from spreading further. During his meeting with Iran’s Foregin Minister Abbas Araghchi in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged Iran and the United States to exercise restraint, return to the Islamabad memorandum and engage in substantive consultations.
Wang said China did not want regional tensions to spread further into Yemen and the Red Sea, according to the Pakistani officials.
The Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb remain central to the wider crisis because disruptions in either waterway can affect global energy supplies and maritime trade.
