Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized Iran’s principled position in opposition to the war. He said, “As we have announced since the beginning of the crisis, we are against the war in Afghanistan, Yemen, Palestine, including Ukraine.”
Furthermore, he said that Iran’s practical policy is also in accordance with this principle. He also said that Iran is against any action that leads to the escalation of conflicts.
Iran’s top diplomat also rejected US National Security Advisor’s recent accusations against Iran regarding Iran sending drones to Russia for the war in Ukraine. He said making such claims at the same time as Biden’s trip to the occupied Palestinian territory is in line with specific political goals.
Abdollahian also explained Iran’s principled and clear position in opposing the war and not taking a dual approach taken by some Western nations.
He added that Iran continues its efforts to end the war and solve the political crisis in Ukraine.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister’s stance
In response, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, lauded Iran’s anti-war positions. He said he values the continuation of communication between the Foreign Ministries of Iran and Ukraine. Thus communication was established even in the difficult days of the beginning of the war, Kuleba added.
He agreed that other nations’ accusations should not be the cause of damaging the friendly relations between Iran and Ukraine.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister also announced Kyiv’s readiness to open a new chapter of relations with Tehran. He also appreciated Tehran’s efforts to help establish a ceasefire and focus on a political solution.
