Iran Involved in Gaza Hostages Talks: Trump

Washington (TDI): US President Donald Trump revealed on Monday that Iran is playing a role in ongoing negotiations between the United States, Israel, and Hamas aimed at securing a ceasefire-for-hostages agreement in Gaza.

“Gaza right now is in the midst of a massive negotiation between us and Hamas and Israel, and Iran actually is involved,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “We want to get the hostages back.” Trump offered no further details about Iran’s role.

The United States has proposed a 60-day ceasefire in exchange for the release of hostages held by Hamas.

Israel has reportedly agreed to the terms, but Hamas has so far rejected the offer.

Under the current US-backed proposal: 28 Israeli hostages both alive and deceased would be released in the first week.

In return, 1,236 Palestinian prisoners and the remains of 180 Palestinians would be released.

Trump’s mention of Iran’s involvement comes amid separate US-Iran negotiations focused on reviving nuclear deal.

Iran is being considered a key backer of Hamas, although it has denied direct involvement in operational decisions.

The disclosure adds a new dimension to the complex efforts to end the war in Gaza, which has killed thousands and displaced over a million people since October 2023.
