Islamabad (TDI): The Embassy of Iran in Pakistan marked the 47th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution on Wednesday, and reiterated Tehran’s commitment to sovereignty, independence, and constructive international engagement.

In an official statement issued on the occasion, the embassy described the 1979 Islamic Revolution as a manifestation of the Iranian nation’s collective will, rooted in faith, historical identity, and the pursuit of independence.

It said that the revolution brought an end to a dictatorial regime which was dependent on foreign powers, and ushered in a new era of national sovereignty, popular participation in governance, and restoration of dignity and independence.

Over the past five decades, the statement noted, Iran has pursued a path based on independence, freedom, justice and rejection of domination, maintaining resilience in the face of complex regional and international challenges.

It highlighted achievements in scientific and technological fields, attributing progress to domestic capacities, social cohesion and skilled human capital.

The embassy said “tangible progress has been made in industrial production, the expansion of non-oil exports, strengthening of fiscal foundations and diversified and resilient economy” despite what it termed “unjust sanctions” and a persistent “maximum pressure” campaign.

On foreign policy, the statement emphasized Iran’s “balanced and constructive approach” through active diplomacy and pragmatic engagement. It underscored Tehran’s efforts to expand ties with neighboring states, emerging economies and regional and international organizations.

The statement also referred to nuclear negotiations, saying Iran entered talks as a gesture of goodwill and commitment to diplomacy despite US pressure.

“… acts of aggression against Iran by the Zionist Regime, with the involvement of the US, resulted in significant human and economic losses,” it added.

Touching on domestic developments, the embassy acknowledged public protests that began on December 28, 2025, over economic concerns. While describing the initial gatherings as peaceful, it claimed they were later exploited by violent and extremist elements, leading to unrest.

The government, it said, exercised maximum restraint while fulfilling its responsibility to protect citizens and maintain public order, stressing its awareness of human rights obligations, including the right to peaceful assembly.

Concluding the statement, it maintained that negotiations conducted under threat or coercion cannot produce constructive outcomes and reiterated respect for sovereignty and mutual interests as the cornerstone of effective international engagement.
