Iran denounces Israel’s disregard for UN Charter

-

Tehran, 11 May 2024 (TDI): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran has in the strongest words denounced Israel’s blatant disregard for the UN Charter, on 11th May 2024. The shredding of the UN Charter was termed a “shameless move”.

While denouncing Israel’s disregard for the UN Charter, Iran said that after violating Palestinian rights and committing war crimes without consequence, Israel hopes for applause from the international community.

Furthermore, in just seven months Israel has slaughtered over 34,000 defenseless Palestinian women, children, and citizens. This is a clear example of the country’s contempt for international law and humanitarian rights.

Additionally, it is shameful in and of itself that the global community has chosen to remain silent in the face of such flagrant disrespect for international law and human rights. Conclusively, Iran has strongly condemned all those complicit in these crimes.

Israeli Envoy Shreds UN Charter

The UN General Assembly decided on Friday to give Palestine new “rights and privileges”. It also urged the United Nations Security Council to reevaluate Palestine’s application to join the UN as its 194th member.

Resultantly, the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) was approved with an overwhelming majority of 143 votes.  A total of 25 countries abstained and 9 countries voted against it, including the US and Israel.

In the light of this development, Israeli Ambassador Gilad Erdan expressed his profound displeasure by tearing up the UN charter in front of the UN General Assembly. Moreover, the resolution was described as a “clear violation” of the UN Charter by the Israeli envoy.

Disregarding the UN Charter, Gilad Erdan claimed he is “holding up the mirror” for the signatory states of the UN. “I shredded the UN Charter to illustrate what the General Assembly is doing by subverting the Security Council and supporting the entry of a terror entity.”
