Islamabad, 13 June 2023 (TDI): A high-level delegation from Iran, recently called upon Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs to discuss and strengthen bilateral economic cooperation between the two nations.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, marked a significant step towards enhancing trade and investment opportunities.

The Federal Minister warmly welcomed the Iranian delegation and expressed gratitude for their visit, emphasizing the value Pakistan places on its longstanding and amicable relations with Iran. Both sides aim to strengthen bilateral ties to foster trade and economic prospects that contribute to regional stability and prosperity.

The Minister highlighted the importance of promptly executing agreements and memorandums of understanding reached during the 21st Session of the Pak-Iran Joint Economic Commission, as these will bolster economic cooperation and enhance people-to-people connectivity across various modes of transportation.

The Deputy Minister and Head of the Organization of Investment, Economic and Technical Assistant of Iran (OIETAI), expressed Iran’s keen interest in collaborating with Pakistan. They shared plans for investment in sectors such as energy projects and infrastructure development.

The Deputy Minister also expressed a strong desire to join the projects of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) in Pakistan, aiming to introduce Iranian companies and foster stronger bilateral relations between the two nations.

Stressing the need to enhance the banking channel between Pakistan and Iran, they highlighted the significant opportunities for bilateral trade through barter arrangements.

Discussions during the meeting primarily focused on exploring avenues for increased trade, investment, and technical cooperation in sectors such as energy, agriculture, infrastructure development, manufacturing, and technology.

The Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India (TAPI) gas pipeline project and the Pakistan-Iran Gas initiatives were given specific emphasis, with a shared goal of accelerating their implementation and ensuring successful completion.

Both sides acknowledged the significance of enhancing the bilateral trade volume and pledged to facilitate the business communities of both countries in tapping into the immense opportunities available for economic cooperation.

The meeting served as an important milestone in strengthening ties between Iran and Pakistan, fostering closer collaboration, and creating a platform for mutual growth and prosperity.
