Iran Declares Nuclear Talks with US ‘Pointless’ After Israeli Strikes

Tehran (TDI): Iran has dismissed the prospect of continuing nuclear negotiations with the United States, calling the talks “pointless” in light of Israel’s sweeping military assault, which Tehran claims had Washington’s backing.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei accused the US of duplicity, stating, “You cannot claim to be engaging in negotiations while simultaneously enabling the Zionist regime to strike Iranian territory.”

Baghaei added that the Israeli strikes, described as the most extensive offensive ever launched by Tel Aviv against Iran, had derailed any diplomatic momentum.

He insisted that the attack could not have occurred without at least tacit approval from Washington.

The sharp remarks came amid already frayed relations between Tehran and Washington, which were tentatively set to resume nuclear talks in Muscat this Sunday. The future of those negotiations now appears uncertain.

The US has denied any involvement in the Israeli assault. Addressing the United Nations Security Council, American officials urged Tehran to reconsider and return to talks, arguing that diplomacy remains the wisest path forward.

Still, Iranian officials remain unconvinced. “Israel has effectively hijacked the diplomatic process,” Baghaei said, claiming that the attack proves the futility of engaging with Western powers.

Iran has repeatedly denied accusations that it is seeking nuclear weapons, maintaining that its uranium enrichment activities are strictly for peaceful purposes. Israel has long argued otherwise, viewing Iran’s nuclear ambitions as an existential threat.

US President Donald Trump said that while his administration had advance knowledge of Israel’s plans, he still believed a deal could be reached. “There’s always room to negotiate,” Trump said.

As the region reels from the dramatic escalation, prospects for de-escalation through diplomacy appear dimmer than ever.
