Tehran (TDI): Iran will soon present a counter-proposal to the United States through Oman in response to what it calls an “unacceptable” American offer on reviving the stalled nuclear deal, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei announced on Monday.
Baghaei stated that the US proposal, submitted in late May, did not reflect the outcomes of prior negotiations and failed to address key Iranian concerns, including uranium enrichment on Iranian soil, the fate of Tehran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium, and the phased lifting of US sanctions.
“The US proposal is not acceptable to us. It was not the result of previous rounds of negotiations. We will present our own proposal to the other side via Oman after it is finalized. This proposal is reasonable, logical, and balanced,” said Baghaei.
Iran has not yet confirmed a date for a potential sixth round of nuclear negotiations with the US.

The move comes after Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei last week rejected the US offer, calling it contrary to Iran’s national interests and reaffirming the country’s commitment to continue uranium enrichment.

In 2018, President Donald Trump unilaterally decided to withdraw the US from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and imposed a range of sanctions against Tehran.
In reaction, Iran started to scale back its nuclear program and push it beyond the limits set by the agreement.
