Tehran (TDI): Tehran has sharply criticized US President Donald Trump for what it described as offensive remarks regarding Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The backlash came after Trump claimed he had halted a plot to assassinate Khamenei, a statement that drew immediate condemnation from Iranian officials.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi voiced his frustration in a strongly worded statement, describing Trump’s rhetoric as both disrespectful and damaging to any prospects of renewed diplomatic engagement.
“Our identity is rooted in a proud and ancient culture,” Araghchi said. “While our carpets may be complex in design, our values are not: we cherish independence, dignity, and self-respect, and do not tolerate threats or humiliation.”

In his statement, Araghchi further warned that if Trump truly seeks a deal with Tehran, he must change his approach and “refrain from insulting millions who revere the Supreme Leader.”
Trump, in a recent post on his platform Truth Social, claimed he had prevented a joint Israeli-US operation to eliminate Khamenei, suggesting he knew the exact location where the Iranian leader was hiding during a period of military escalation.
“I stopped Israel and the US Armed Forces from carrying out the strike,” Trump asserted. “I spared him from a disgraceful and painful end.”
He went on to mock Khamenei’s recent remarks in which he described Iran’s retaliatory strikes on US and Israeli targets as merely “a slap.” Trump responded by halting any progress on sanction relief, calling the statement “filled with hate and resentment.”

He also issued a stern warning to Tehran, saying any continued pursuit of nuclear weapons would be met with devastating force.
These remarks follow a fragile US-brokered truce that ended a fierce 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel, a war that left the region on edge and rekindled fears of broader confrontation.
