UK-Somalia Relations

Relations between Somalia and United Kingdom date back to the 19th century. For the UK government, Somalia is a strategically important country.

The National Security Council (NSC) strategy of Somalia caters to the mutual interests of both states. It includes counter-terrorism as well as development and humanitarian goals.

The United Kingdom supports Somalia in various sectors. It cooperates in terms of security and training the national army, including the military base in Baidoa city under the Southwest State of Somalia.

The UK is the second-biggest donor to the country. Just recently the UK announced 100 million euros in humanitarian aid, in response to a famine warning. It plays a significant role in international efforts to build a viable political settlement and functioning state.
