Caracas (TDI): The Acting President of Venezuela has come up with a more conciliatory tone toward the United States, in a marked shift from her earlier angry remarks on Maduro’s capture.
Delcy Rodriguez, who was appointed the interim leader of the country by the Supreme Court on Saturday, called US’ actions “an atrocity that violates international law,” and maintained that Maduro remains the country’s President.
These remarks brought her the ire of President Trump who said that either Rodriguez cooperates or she will have to pay a big and heavy price.
In her latest remarks on Telegram, the interim President, who has been Nicolas Maduro’s deputy since 2018, said: “We consider it a priority to move towards a balanced and respectful relationship between the US and Venezuela.”

She has also formed a commission, including Venezuela’s Foreign Minister, to talk to the US on the release of Maduro and his wife, who were captured and taken to New York in a very sensitive and high-stakes operation conducted by US Special Forces.
“We extend an invitation to the US government to work together on an agenda for cooperation that is aimed towards shared development,” Rodriguez also wrote.
While she changes and adjusts her tone, the US President has even come up with threats for other countries in the region as well. This despite the fact that back home on the US, the operation on Venezuela is being criticized brutally.
Trump, in a statement, clearly expressed intentions to “run” Venezuela but this assertion is problematic as a government remains in place in the Latin American country despite Maduro’s capture.
Anticipation is high as officials of Trump administration continue to threaten further action in Venezuela if things do not happen as they wish, meanwhile also pushing Maduro’s trial inside the US, who is to appear before a court on Monday.
