San Francisco (TDI): Instagram launched a new feature to create a safer and more controlled environment for its younger users.
Social media platform has introduced restricted teen accounts while prioritizing teen safety and mental well-being.
Instagram comes with a variety of safeguarding and limitations for users aged 13 to 17. The new users will automatically handle the visibility of teens’ profiles.
That prevents unwanted contact from adults and unsolicited communications from unknown users.
Instagram is committed to promoting user safety, especially for younger audiences at risk such as cyberbullying and predatory behavior.
Key Features of Restricted Teen Accounts:
Privacy Settings:
All new teen accounts will be private. Approved followers can see posts and interact with the account. Teens will also receive the notification of private accounts.
Interaction Limitations:
Adults who are not connected to a teen user will have limited time to comment or send direct messages. This feature reduced the risk of inappropriate contact or unsolicited content.
Content Controls:
This will also restrict sensitive content in reels and explore sections of the app for teen users. Also, limit their exposure to harmful or inappropriate content.
Activity Supervision Tools:
