Islamabad, 10 August 2024 (TDI): Since Thursday night, there have been disruptions to Instagram and WhatsApp services for users all across Pakistan.
Many have reported having trouble sending voice notes and media items, such as photos and movies.
In major cities like Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, and Karachi, where the majority of cases have been reported in the last 24 hours, the disruptions have been very frustrating for users.
People have reported the issue on DownDetector and social media. In order to transfer media and audio notes, some users have resorted to using virtual private networks, or VPNs.
There are users who claim that they have not had any problems with Instagram and WhatsApp in spite of these widely circulated reports, meaning that for them the service is operating perfectly.
Neither the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) nor the country’s largest ISPs have offered an explanation for the outages that have affected a significant portion of the country’s user base thus far.
