Dhaka, 13 August 2024 (DI): Sheikh Hasina Wajid, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, is the subject of an alleged murder inquiry after a man was killed by police amid civil unrest last month.
After weeks of violent turmoil in the capital Dhaka, six more high-ranking officials from the previous government are also under investigation.
Police in Dhaka have been ordered to accept “the murder case against the accused persons,” according to Mamun Mia, the attorney who submitted the complaint on behalf of an individual.
As per Bangladeshi law, this is the initial phase of a criminal inquiry.
After political instability caused the administration to become unstable earlier this month, Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the nation, traveling to India.
After weeks of student protests against Ms. Hasina, almost 400 individuals lost their lives. She gave the cops orders to shoot a number of them.
After local grocer Abu Saeed was shot in the head while crossing the street, businessman Amir Hamza filed a petition to prosecute for murder in July.
