Doha, 27 December 2022 (TDI): The Indonesian Embassy in Doha held an appreciation evening for Indonesian volunteers who participated in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The event was held at Wisma Duta, Jalan Istiqlal, at the Ambassador’s residence, Doha, on 23 December 2022.

The Indonesian Ambassador to the State of Qatar, Ridwan Hassan, expressed his appreciation for the Indonesian volunteers at the 2022 World Cup. He stated, “They are the ambassadors of Indonesia who stand face with fans from all over the world.”

Meanwhile, one of the volunteer representatives, Ahmad Syarnubi Fatah, said he was proud to be able to volunteer for the 2022 World Cup. He underscored, “Even though I need to travel about 2.

5 hours a day, I still enjoy this volunteer activity.”

Indonesian Participants

At least 90 Indonesian citizens participated as volunteers in the Qatar World Cup. Most of them were residents of Qatar, and others came directly from Indonesia or other countries.

Furthermore, during the tournament, these participants played various roles, such as managing the media team and helping fans with disabilities.

Indonesian Diaspora

In addition to volunteers, the young Indonesian diaspora in Qatar also participated in many World Cup activities.

Ali Murtado, head of Social and Cultural Affairs at the Indonesian Embassy in Doha, said, “There were a lot of Indonesian children who were involved as ball crews, flag bearers, or escort players at the World Cup”.

Moreover, Indonesia participated in several cultural arts performances during the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The local government gave this opportunity.

Angklung performances, batik exhibitions, diaspora festivals, and individual art activities were carried out.

For this participation, the Indonesian Embassy in Doha also gave awards to Indonesian Arts Studios and Art Figures in Qatar. They have actively promoted Indonesia during the 2022 World Cup.

However, this extraordinary version of the World Cup has been an unforgettable experience for the volunteers and the children involved.
