Islamabad, 18 August 2024 (TDI): The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Pakistan celebrated its Independence Day on Saturday, August 17 at the Embassy’s premises.

The embassy organized a Flag Hoisting Ceremony to celebrate the country’s 79th Independence Day led by the Chargé d’Affaires, Mr Rahmat Hindiarta Kusuma.

Embassy officials along with their families and hundreds of Indonesian citizens living in different cities of Pakistan attended the event with traditional Indonesian fervor.

The Flag Housing Ceremony also welcomed renowned religious scholars, journalists, experts from reputable think tanks, and representatives of the business community as guests of honor.

The ceremony started by observing a minute of silence to pay tribute to national heroes, followed by reading the text of Independence’s proclamation. Then, special prayers were made for the Country and renewed commitment to avidly make Indonesia prosperous, harmonious, advanced, and invincible.

Another name for the Flag Hoisting Ceremony in Indonesian is “Upacara Bendera”. A smartly turned-out group of Indonesian students hoisted the Indonesian flag – an activity watched by an inspector of ceremony who happened to be Chargé d’Affaires.

After that, the team solemnly raised their red and white flag as they played the Indonesian National Anthem called “Great Indonesia” or “Indonesia Raya”.

At the end of the ceremony, all distinguished guests were led by the Indonesian Chargé d’Affaires to the Embassy’s Hall for light refreshments that included Tumpeng: a cone-shaped rice dish inseparable from celebrations and other important events in Indonesia.

“On behalf of the Indonesian Embassy, I express my sincere gratitude and high appreciation to all of you for joining us at the very special moment of Indonesian Independence Day. Dosti zindahbad! Indonesia and Pakistan – two greatest Islamic nations,” Indonesian Chargé d’Affaires said, reminding guests about liberty and friendship between two brotherly countries.
