Indonesia Celebrates Nyepi Day; Pakistan Extends Greetings

Jakarta (TDI): Indonesia is set to observe Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, on Saturday. This sacred Hindu celebration marks the Saka New Year and is characterized by a 24-hour period of complete silence, fasting, and meditation.

During Nyepi, all activities on the island of Bali come to a halt: businesses close, streets empty, and even the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport suspends operations.

Residents and visitors alike are expected to remain indoors, staying away from lighting fires, working, traveling, or engaging in any fun or entertainment.

This practice, known as Catur Brata Penyepian, aims to promote self-reflection and spiritual purification in the people.

In the days leading up to Nyepi, vibrant rituals and festivities take place, including the Ogoh-Ogoh parade on March 28.

During this event, intricately crafted statues and sculptures representing mythological creatures are paraded through the streets, accompanied by traditional music and dance.

These celebrations culminate in the Day of Silence, providing a profound contrast that underscores the importance of balance and harmony in life.

President Joko Widodo has extended his heartfelt greetings to all Hindus observing Nyepi, emphasizing the significance of this day as a time for introspection and renewal.

He expressed his hope that the values embodied in Nyepi would inspire all Indonesians to foster harmony with nature, fellow citizens, and the Creator.

In solidarity with the celebrations, the Indonesian Embassy in Pakistan has also conveyed its best wishes to the Hindu community of Indonesia.

The Embassy highlighted the universal message of peace and self-reflection that Nyepi represents, reinforcing the spirit of unity and mutual respect among diverse cultures and religions.

Nyepi serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of pause and contemplation in today’s fast-paced world.

It is a significant day for Indonesians, encouraging them to disconnect from external distractions and engage in deep self-reflection.

This observance fosters a renewed sense of purpose and clarity as they welcome the new year with spiritual mindfulness.
