India to participate in the 7th Eastern Economic Forum

Moscow, 30 July 2022 (TDI): The delegation of India will take part in the Arctic segment of the 7th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.

This year’s 7th Eastern Economic Forum will be taking place from September 5 up to 8. The Forum will include a presentation on the investment potential of Russian regions.

Notably, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi delivered a video-address during the previous plenary session of the 6th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) that was held on 3 September 2021 in Vladivostok.

Russian-Indian consultations on Arctic issues

On 29 July, Nikolay Korchunov, the Chair of the Arctic Council Committee of Senior Arctic Officials,  and Ambassador-at-Large for Arctic Cooperation of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs met with the Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs of India, Sanjay Verma.

Thus, with the purpose of holding a regular round of consultations between Foreign Ministries regarding Arctic issues.

Therefore, the Representatives of the Russian Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and the Arctic, Rosatom State Corporation, the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, and the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia, and the Far East of the Russian Federation attended the consultations.

In line with this, they discussed prospects for deepening Russian-Indian cooperation in “high latitudes”. Specifically in bilateral and multilateral formats, including the Arctic Council.

Both sides highlighted the significant potential for promoting cooperation. Particularly in the economy, transport, science, and culture, encompassing contacts through regional and public organizations.

The Eastern Economic Forum

In 2015, the Russian President, Vladimir Putin established by decree the Eastern Economic Forum. Thus, supporting the economic development of Russia’s Far East and expanding international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Eastern Economic Forum is therefore, a significant international platform. Especially for establishing and strengthening ties within the Russian and global investment communities.

More to this, the Forum is for comprehensive expert evaluation of the economic potential of the Russian Far East. Together with the investment opportunities it offers, and business conditions in advanced special economic zones.
