Doha, 7 September 2022 (TDI): President of the European Council, Charles Michel inaugurated the premises of the European Union (EU) Delegation in the State of Qatar, on Wednesday.

Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the European Union Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al Malki, and Ambassador-designate of the European Union to Qatar Dr. Cristian Tudor, all attended the inauguration event.
EU Delegation Premises was Inaugurated in Qatar to enhance diplomatic ties between Europe and Qatar and advance relations to a new level of bilateral collaboration.
Remarks by President of EU Council
Charles Michel said that the energy, economic, and security sectors face significant global problems. It only serves to strengthen the notion that working with Qatar is an important step in overcoming many challenging issues.
Moreover, Charles Michel mentioned that he held several fruitful meetings and political consultations with representatives from the State of Qatar.
He expressed confidence that significant progress would be made on matters of mutual interest between the two sides in the coming weeks.
Moreover, he emphasized the shared aims and objectives between the EU and the State of Qatar. He also stressed increasing efforts to achieve security, stability, and prosperity across all spheres.
Ambassador of Qatar’s remarks
The Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the EU, Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al Malki, highlighted that the EU Delegation Premises’ opening in Doha was based on a joint agreement that the two parties had signed in Brussels in February 2022.
Furthermore, the Ambassador of Qatar stated that the recent period saw a notable improvement in Qatari-European relations due to the numerous bilateral visits made by the two sides. He added that this visit will also strengthen cooperation in various fields.
The main goal is to enhance their long-term cooperation through official meetings, exchange visits, and the organization of events in various fields.
Remarks by EU’s Ambassador to Qatar
The EU’s resident Ambassador to the State of Qatar and head of the EU mission in Doha, Cristian Tudor, expressed pleasure and appreciation for his appointment. He acknowledged that the opening of the mission’s facilities reflects the EU’s interest in the State of Qatar.
Moreover, he pointed out that the strong momentum in European-Qatari relations reflects their political will, eagerness, and firm desire to further strengthen their cooperation.
The focus of cooperation is on energy, digitization, security and stability, green transformation, and implementation of many joint projects.

Further, Cristian Tudor applauded the achievements, adjustments, and improvements made by the State of Qatar to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
He also assured the support of the EU to give help in numerous domains for the success of this global sports event.
