Beijing, 4 February 2022 (TDI): Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan attends the Beijing Olympics 2022 Opening Ceremony at the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing.


The opening ceremony was held today, on Friday 4 February. The Chinese leadership especially welcomed the Prime Minister of Pakistan to attend the event.

Pakistan’s representation at Beijing Olympics 2022 Opening Ceremony

Several athletes paraded at the National Stadium. As far as representation from Pakistan is concerned, there is a four-member contingent that is representing the country.

This four-member contingent was announced by the Pakistan Olympic Association on 1 February 2022. The names of the members are as follows:

There is the chef de mission Syed Noman Ali. Then, Nadeem Ajmal Khan is the team leader. Mirza Mohammad Qamar as the coach and Mohammad Karim, a Pakistani skier.

Furthermore, it is relevant to mention here that Mohammad Karim is the only Pakistani athlete who will compete in the “Alpine Skiing Slalom”. This competition is scheduled for February 16, 2022.

The skier hails from Gilgil-Baltistan and is twenty-six years old. Additionally, when the above-mentioned contingent paraded, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan and other eminent dignitaries from Pakistan raised from their seats to warmly welcome them.

While making its way across the stadium during the Beijing Olympics 2022 Opening Ceremony, the contingent waved Pakistan’s National flag.

The arrival of Imran Khan in China a day earlier

Imran Khan arrived in China a day earlier to attend the Beijing Olympics 2022 Opening Ceremony at the invitation of China. To be more specific, on Thursday 3 February.


Several Ministers of state, federal cabinet members are along with the Prime Minister on this official four-day visit. Namely, Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar, and  Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin.

In addition, National Security Advisor Doctor Moeed Yusuf, Adviser on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on CPEC Khalid Mansoor are in the delegation.

The above-mentioned dignitaries from Pakistan landed at Beijing Capital International Airport. Assistant Foreign Minister of China, Wu Jianghao received them. Moreover, the Ambassador of Pakistan to China Moeenul Haq assisted by other officials were also there at the arrival.
