ICC Delays Meeting Again Over Champions Trophy

DUBAI, (TDI): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has once again postponed a crucial meeting concerning the 2025 Champions Trophy, as it awaits a response from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has informed the ICC that any further meetings would be pointless until India responds to their proposed “new formula” for hosting the event, according to Geo Super.

This delay marks the third time the ICC has had to push back the meeting due to India’s lack of response. To resolve the deadlock, the PCB had proposed a “Partnership Formula,” also known as the “Fusion Formula.” Under this proposal, India would play its ICC matches in Dubai, while Pakistan would do the same for its fixtures in India.

Earlier, an Indian media report suggested that the BCCI had agreed to this model, though no official confirmation has been made by the Indian board.

According to Press Trust of India (PTI), the 2025 Champions Trophy will be jointly hosted by Pakistan and the UAE, with India’s matches set to take place in Dubai. However, the PCB has emphasized the importance of receiving a written guarantee from the ICC regarding this arrangement.

Meanwhile, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed hope for positive outcomes in ongoing discussions with the ICC to resolve the impasse caused by India.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, Naqvi refrained from commenting further on the matter but assured the public that any finalized decision would be shared once reached. He emphasized that whatever the outcome, it would be beneficial for both Pakistan and international cricket.

Naqvi also stated that the ICC had postponed the meeting due to the unresolved status of the Champions Trophy. Additionally, he reaffirmed PCB’s commitment to improving domestic cricket by upgrading existing stadiums and constructing new ones where necessary to nurture emerging talent.
