Ottawa, 5 October 2022 (TDI): The Federal Government of Canada extends aid to help people dealing with catastrophic flooding in Pakistan.
Canada continues to help the people of Pakistan by supporting the humanitarian response to the crisis, and longer-term development needs.
Funding in humanitarian assistance
Floods and monsoon rains have damaged 1 million houses and affected 33 million people in Pakistan. The impacts of recent flooding in Pakistan are far-reaching, leaving almost three-quarters of a million people without access to safe and adequate housing.
The Humanitarian Coalition and its members are delivering life-saving services, such as emergency food and nutrition assistance to the Pakistani people. In addition, they are also providing emergency cash and vouchers, necessary water, sanitation, and health services.
International Development Minister Harjit Sajjan stated, “I felt that it wasn’t getting the (media) coverage that a crisis like this deserves”.
Canada will spend an additional $7.5 million on flood relief in Pakistan. The money will go towards logistics and air transport capacity for the humanitarian response.
It will also be spent on providing emergency relief supplies. These include tents, shelter kits, kitchen sets, and tarps for the flood affectees.

Before that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also announced that Canada would allocate an additional $25 million of funding in response to the impact of flooding in Pakistan. The aid will also support development projects in the country.
In response to the flooding emergency unfolding in Pakistan, leading Canadian aid agencies are working together. Moreover, the Humanitarian Coalition is raising funds to rush assistance to people in need.
