High Commissioner of Maldives received Ambassador of Palestine

Islamabad, 29 July 2022 (TDI): High Commissioner of Maldives to Pakistan, Farzana Zahir received the Ambassador of Palestine, General (R) Ahmed Jawad A.A. Rabei, at the High Commission on 28 July 2022.

Both of them discussed the close bond of friendship between the two countries and assured unwavering support of the Maldives to the Palestine cause.

Maldives- Palestine Bilateral Relations

Palestine and Maldives enjoy commendable relations as the Maldives government stands against the injustices, committed by Israel against the people of Palestine.

Moreover, they assured that the Maldives will always remain in solidarity with the Palestinian people’s struggle to secure their right to statehood.

Adding to this, the Maldivian public has shown their support for Palestine since the conflict occurs in Palestine.

The Palestinian International Cooperation Agency headed a Palestinian Delegation to the Republic of Maldives to discuss the Palestinian cooperation Maldivian program.

The main purpose of the program is to strengthen the relations and cooperation between the State of Palestine and the Republic of Maldives, in vast areas of international cooperation.

It further strengthened the health, agriculture, energy, tourism, moderate Islam, education, and other priority between the two programs.

Aid through Funds

Moreover, the Maldives has always supported the Palestinian cause and expressed high appreciation and gratitude for the support and solidarity.

The Help Gaza telethon, organized by the media, raised a record MVR 21.5 million (US$1.4 million) in aid for victims of the war in Gaza.

The 36-hour 30-minute-long telethon collected an initial amount of MVR6.3 million (US$ 400,000) through the religious Adhaalath Party’s Help, Gaza Fund.

A series of activities including jumble sales, fishing competitions, sports competitions, traditional drum shows, and fairs were held throughout the weekend to raise funds.

Donations were collected through collection boxes, SMS, checks, and Bank of Maldives (BML) Point of Sales systems.

The Maldives Police Services and Scouts oversaw security at collection boxes. BML was in charge of collecting and managing donations. Hence, both countries hope to further strengthen their relations through cooperation at various levels.
