High Commissioner of Maldives met the President of BGMEA

Dhaka: June 21, 2021 – (TDI):  The High Commissioner of Maldives, Shiruzimath Sameer met the President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Faruque Hassan. The association contributes significantly to the earning sector of foreign trades. In the meeting, they talked about encouraging bilateral economic collaboration between both nations.

BGMEA is one of the largest trading associations leading from the front for Bangladesh to reach the global markets, especially in the apparel and textile manufacturing sectors. Established in 1983, BGMEA is now considered the backbone of Bangladesh’s economy. The forum is supporting, promoting, and facilitating the local industries through effective policy advocacy with the government and offering various services to the members. The association is also ensuring that the local and international stakeholders bring forward innovative ways for Bangladesh’s garment industry. There are nearly four thousand registered garment factories.

On the other hand, Maldives offers a vast list of garment export options and opportunities for Bangladesh. These manufacturers in the Maldives are reaching Europe and US for the exports. This is also the second-largest important export commodity for the Maldives. With a huge potential for tourism, Maldives can work closely with Bangladesh to improve its textile export and production potential.
