Glasgow, 18 November 2023 (TDI): The Head of Palestine Mission to the UK, Dr Husam Zomlot, warmly received by the First Minister, Humza Yousaf, at Bute House on Friday. During their meeting, they engaged in a fruitful discussion regarding the pressing requirement for an urgent humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.

Humza stated I heard from Husam details of the devastating humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. I assured him that the Scotland government would continue to call on the UK Government and international community to push for an immediate ceasefire.

The primary objective of this ceasefire to safeguard the lives of countless innocent individuals who are currently at risk. Further, he stated that Hamas carried out border raids on Israel on October 7, which resulted in 1200 dead bodies.

This led to a heavy response by the Israeli military, with thousands of Palestinians dying as a result of attacks on Gaza. The ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza has prompted international appeals for an immediate ceasefire of violence in the area.

A demonstration advocating for Palestine has been scheduled to take place at Glasgow Green this Saturday at 1 pm. This event aims to raise awareness and support for the cause, highlighting the ongoing conflict and its impact.

On the other hand, Humza Yousaf convened a meeting with members of the Jewish community at Bute House on Friday. He addresses their apprehensions regarding the rise of antisemitism amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza.
