Pretoria, 12 August 2022 (TDI): The new High Commissioner of Uganda to South Africa, Paul Amoru, met the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, on Thursday.

The event took place at Sefako Makgotho Presidential Guest House in Pretoria. Ambassador Paul Amoru presented his letter of credence to the President of South Africa.

President Ramaphosa welcomed Ambassador Amoru and wished him the best for his new assignment as the High Commissioner of Uganda to South Africa.

The High Commissioner conveyed Uganda’s vision to grow both countries’ excellent and cordial bilateral relations. Ambassador Paul Amoru said that relations of both countries are anchored on a blood bond that dates far back before South Africa got her independence.

Ambassador Paul Amoru also highlighted that Uganda provided a sanctuary for the South African freedom fighters of uMkhonto we Sizwe.

The new High Commissioner emphasized that his government and the people of Uganda take pride in the support shared by both countries during the struggle for freedom and democracy in South Africa.

Both countries share a history of struggle for the freedom and progress of their people. They look forward to working together to expand the scope of cooperation.

They are also expected to augment the outcomes of the recently concluded Joint Commission Cooperation (JCC) meeting, hosted in Kampala.

South Africa-Uganda Relations

This year Uganda and South Africa celebrated 28 years of strong diplomatic relations. Trade relations between both countries continue to strengthen year by year.

The Joint Permanent Commission between the countries is significant in enhancing cooperation in various areas. It includes defense, trade and investment, health, education, and foreign relations.

Both countries have a solid framework for cooperation. Uganda and South Africa seek to strengthen their relationship by boosting bilateral ties and cooperation in different dominions.
