Government Installs Firewall on the Social Media

-

Islamabad, 16 August, 2024 (TDI): The Government of Pakistan has recently implemented a new firewall system aimed at blocking anti-state propaganda on social media platforms. This move is part of the government’s strategy to enhance national security by monitoring and controlling the flow of anti-state content and propaganda on the social media.

In the past few days, internet users across Pakistan experienced a noticeable slowdown in their internet services. According to sources, this slowdown was caused by the second trial phase of the newly installed firewall. The government undertook this trial to ensure the firewall’s effectiveness in identifying and blocking content that poses a threat to national security.

The new firewall system is equipped with Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) capabilities, allowing it to analyze and monitor data packets transmitted over the internet. This advanced technology enables the firewall to identify specific points of propaganda and block the IDs involved in spreading such content.

The first trial of the firewall was completed in June of this year, laying the groundwork for the current phase of implementation. The success of the initial trial provided the government with valuable insights into the firewall’s functionality and areas for improvement.
