Islamabad, 5 September 2024 (TDI): Global tech giant Google has announced that it will produce 500,000 Chromebooks in Pakistan by 2026.
President of Google Asia Pacific (APAC) Scott Beaumont made this announcement while speaking at “Agay Barho-A Google for Pakistan” in Islamabad. He also presented the first locally manufactured device to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Speaking on the occasion, PM Shehbaz praised Google’s contributions in the field of Information Technology (IT) globally and in Pakistan.
He said the government aimed to achieve the “realistic target” of $25 billion in IT exports over the next five years.
The premier urged IT professionals and entrepreneurs to create a strategy that would contribute to achieving this target and promised the provision of a conducive environment for small businesses and freelancers.

PM Shehbaz said he was dedicated to transforming the country’s governance system through digitization, to eradicate paper-based processes and minimize corruption.
“We have also hired a new Secretary for the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication as part of the project,” he added.
On the occasion, the Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja praised Google’s contribution to Pakistan’s digital evolution, which she said was in line with the prime minister’s vision.
Meanwhile, the Regional Director for Google in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka Farhan S. Qureshi emphasized that technology has the potential to enhance economic growth in Pakistan, pointing out the numerous opportunities available for freelancers in the tech industry.
