Global Experts to Gather for 2nd International Forum on poverty reduction

Tashkent, 15 May 2023 (TDI): The Hilton Tashkent City Hotel is all set to be the venue for the highly anticipated 2nd International Forum titled “Implementing Best Practices in Poverty Reduction,” aimed at eradicating poverty.

Experts from various countries will gather on May 18, 2023, to deliberate on the best methods to eliminate poverty and discuss the effectiveness of Uzbekistan’s achievements in this regard. The primary objective of the event is to expand the acquired knowledge and experience to developing countries worldwide.

The Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) has joined forces with the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan to organize this year’s International Forum on Poverty Reduction.

The event, which is being supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Uzbekistan and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), is set to attract around 200 participants, including representatives from prominent organizations such as J-PAL, UN, UNDP, ILO, World Bank, UNICEF, ADB, AFD, GIZ, GGGI, and many more.

Among the distinguished guests will be Abhijit Banerjee, Alfred Nobel Prize winner, co-founder of the global initiative to combat poverty J-PAL, as well as James Foster, Professor of Economics at George Washington University, and Sabina Alkire, the director of the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative.

Additionally, the Forum will be graced by the presence of several prominent figures, including Shixin Chen, Vice-President of the Asian Development Bank; Anna Bjerde, Vice-President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia; Consuelo Vidal Brus, UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan; Munir Mammadzade, Head of the UNICEF Office in Uzbekistan; Marco Mantovanelli, Head of the World Bank in Uzbekistan; Liu Junwen, Director-General of the International Poverty Reduction Center in China; and Jiang Tianbao, Vice Director of the National Rural Revitalization Administration of China.

The 2nd International Forum on Poverty Reduction is expected to be attended by representatives from various countries, including the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the People’s Republic of China, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Tajikistan, as well as the diplomatic corps.

The primary objective of the Forum is to explore the most effective global practices and strategies for poverty reduction.

It aims to identify priority areas for future collaborative research, focusing on a comprehensive approach to address multidimensional poverty, social protection and targeting, enhancing the quality of labor market training programs through human capital development, supporting the growth of small businesses, and improving access to high-quality education.

The participants will evaluate Uzbekistan’s accomplishments in implementing measures to combat poverty, including their efficacy, to facilitate the transfer of acquired knowledge to other developing nations.

The Forum will witness the signing of multiple cooperation agreements and the adoption of a joint Communique. This will include signing a joint Action Programme between the Center for Economic Research and Reforms and the J-PAL.

The Forum promises to be an excellent platform for experts to share their knowledge and experiences on tackling poverty globally, making it a crucial event in the fight against poverty.
