Islamabad (TDI) Engineer Umer Mehmood, a leading industrial entrepreneur and Director of Mehson Industries, has been awarded the prestigious Global Ambassador Award in recognition of his efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s manufacturing ecosystem, economic resilience, and youth development.
His work, spanning leadership roles in industry, academia, and international trade, has cemented his reputation as a driving force behind Pakistan’s evolving industrial landscape.
As head of International Trade Development at the Gujranwala Business Centre (GBC), Engr. Umer has played a central role in promoting local innovation and expanding global market access for Pakistani products.
Under his leadership, GBC has grown into one of the country’s most active export display and trade-facilitation platforms, providing small and medium enterprises with direct exposure to international buyers.

His contributions have been instrumental in giving local manufacturers the visibility and support needed to compete globally.
As Chairman of the Entrepreneurship Development Board at GIFT University, he has spearheaded initiatives such as Meet the CEO, GBC Talks, and extensive industrial visits, enabling students to gain firsthand experience of real-world business environments.
His mentorship programs have empowered young entrepreneurs with practical knowledge, encouraging innovation and confidence among emerging talent.
This mission continues at Air University Islamabad, where he serves on the Advisory Board, guiding students toward industry-aligned career paths.

A strong advocate of indigenous manufacturing, Engr. Umer has worked with over 300 industries nationwide to promote local mold design, OEM development, and the reduction of reliance on imported tools.
He also played a pivotal role in developing OKTO into a nationally recognized home-appliances brand, showcasing the potential of local engineering expertise.
In his capacity as Chairman of the Development Committee of the Home Appliances Association of Pakistan, he has advanced workforce training initiatives in collaboration with SMEDA and the National Compliance Centre, helping upskill Pakistan’s technical labor force.
His involvement in international platforms, including the Pakistan-Romania Business Council and the Sri Lanka-Pakistan Business Forum, further reflects his dedication to expanding Pakistan’s global industrial footprint.
