Islamabad (TDI): Sardar Masood Khan, one of Pakistan’s most accomplished diplomats and public leaders, has been honored with the Global Ambassador Award in recognition of his outstanding service to Pakistan and his influential role on the world stage.
With a career spanning over four decades, Ambassador Masood’s contributions have left a deep imprint on Pakistan’s foreign policy, global partnerships, and multilateral engagement.
Widely regarded as one of the most distinguished figures in Pakistan’s diplomatic history, Ambassador Masood has represented the country in some of its most critical international postings.
He served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, United States, and Permanent Representative to the United Nations both in Geneva and at the UN Headquarters in New York.

Earlier, as the Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he played a key role in articulating Pakistan’s foreign policy during pivotal moments.
Throughout his diplomatic tenure, Ambassador Masood Khan consistently worked to strengthen Pakistan’s global partnerships through strategic dialogue, enhanced people-to-people ties, and cooperation in political, economic, and security domains.
His leadership was particularly significant during Pakistan’s non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council (2012–2013), where he served as President in January 2013.
Beyond bilateral diplomacy, Ambassador Masood earned global respect through his stewardship of major multilateral institutions.
He presided over or chaired key international forums, including the Conference on Disarmament, UNICEF Executive Board, committees under the International Labor Organization, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Group of 77 & China.

As Vice President of both the UN General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), he contributed to shaping global agendas on development, humanitarian issues, and multilateral cooperation.
A specialist in nuclear diplomacy, he served as Pakistan’s Chief Negotiator at the US-led Nuclear Security Summits from 2009 to 2015, advancing international nuclear safety frameworks.
His contributions earned him international acclaim, including China’s highest diplomatic award in 2015 and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Award for Diplomacy and International Service in 2023.
Ambassador Masood’s leadership also extended to national governance. As President of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, he guided the region through significant political and diplomatic developments.
Later, as Director General of the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), he played a key role in shaping national discourse on foreign policy and global affairs.
Established in December 2008, The Diplomatic Insight is Pakistan’s premier diplomacy and foreign affairs magazine, available in both digital and print formats.
