Islamabad, 30 June 2022 (TDI): Pakistani Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood received the German Ambassador to Pakistan, Bernhard Schlagheck on his farewell call and also emphasized strengthening the bilateral ties with Germany in various fields.

Sohail Mahmood appreciated the German Ambassador’s valuable contribution to strengthening relations between Pakistan and Germany.

Foreign Secretary also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to upgrade bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, education, and technology domains.

Bernhard Schlagheck

Bernhard Schlagheck was appointed as ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in August 2019. His tenure in Pakistan has come to an end.

Bernhard Schlagheck is an avid reader and his love for literature grew upon visiting Pakistan.

He got a chance to learn about eminent Pakistani writers like Allama Muhammad Iqbal, Josh Malihabadi, Habib Jalib, Fahmida Riaz, Hasina Gul etc.

Moreover, Bernhard has been a big fan of Pakistani Cuisine and is fond of Pakistani hospitality.

He has also served as the UN Chief of Staff of the UN Security Council Negotiating Team in 2006.

Bernhard Schlagheck was born on September 3rd, 1956 in Monchengladbach, studied law and economics, and has been very interculturally active in different places where he has worked as a diplomat. Aside from literature, Bernhard enjoys theater

Before coming to Pakistan, he was appointed as German ambassador to Nigeria.

Pak-Germany Strategic Dialogues

2022 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Germany.

On October 15th, 1951, Pakistan and the Federal Republic of Germany established diplomatic relations and since then both have been close allies.

Moreover, Pakistan is one of the first Asian countries to establish relations with Germany.
In 2011, Germany and Pakistan agreed on initiating a Pak-Germany Strategic Dialogue on annual basis. The goal of these dialogues will be to enhance fields like economy, defense, energy, investment, infrastructure, etc.

Since 2011, Four rounds of these dialogues have taken place. The last one was held in November 2018, in Islamabad Pakistan.
