Geneva, 24 August 2021 (TDI): Permanent Representative of Russian Federation to UN office in Geneva Gennady Gatilov addressed the United Nations Human Rights Council’s special session for human rights situation in Afghanistan.

The Representative of the Russian Federation expressed grave concerns over threats of women and children’s rights violations in Afghanistan under the Taliban regime. Gatilov called on the Afghan parties to maintain peace in the country and avoid spreading terror and extremism in the country. He also called for the international community’s action and support for Afghani civilians. He urged regional and international actors to play a greater part in the national reconciliation of Afghanistan. Also, he lauded the efforts of Troika plus (Pakistan, USA, China, and Russia) in playing an effective role in providing external support to settlement.
