Ontario: July 16, 2021 – (TDI): The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Marc Garneau communicated with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet. Minister Garneau reaffirmed Canada’s determination to advocate for human rights, not only in Canada but also in the whole world. He appreciated the High Commissioner for her global efforts of monitoring and intercepting human rights abuses and violations.
Shedding light on the situation of past human rights abuses of Indigenous groups in Canada, the Canadian Minister accentuated Canada’s determination to promote reconciliation and fundamental rights of Canadian Indigenous People. He has highlighted Canadian commitment to assist those affected by racism and colonialism of past residential schools, including the survivors, their families, and communities. Both officials consented to work together to advocate for human rights globally.
