French President on call with Russian President

Paris, 12 September 2022 (TDI): French President on call with Russian President, Vladimir Putin, on Sunday.

This telephonic conversation between the officials took place following President Macron’s call with the President Zelensky of Ukraine and the Director General of the IAEA.

Telephonic Conversation between Russian and French Counterparts

During the call, President Macron condemned the continuation of Russian military operations in Ukraine. He also recalled his demand that Russia stops such operations as soon as possible. He emphasized restoring Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The President of the French Republic also insisted on the need to ensure the safety of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

The President of the Republic also discussed world food security with his Russian counterpart. He recalled that European sanctions do not apply to agricultural products or those essential for agriculture.

He stressed that it is the common responsibility of international partners, including Russia, to ensure that the most exposed countries continue to receive the food they need.

He asked President Putin to ensure that the agreement reached by Russia with Ukraine and Turkey, under the supervision of the United Nations, is implemented in such a way that the grain exported reaches the ones in urgent need.

By the end of the call, he stressed the importance of effective coordination being established within the framework of the FARM initiative, that France has taken with the concerned international organizations.

The President of the French Republic plans to remain in contact with President Zelensky of Ukraine and the Director General of IAEA.

He wishes to keep the Russian President in the loop as well for reaching a peaceful agreement to ensure the safety of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
